' SAVE OUR PARK 'SHIV VATIKA'

We have a beautiful park in Shalimar Bagh covering 4000 sq.mts. which has about 80 fully grown trees of eucalyptus, peepul, neem etc..where at least 300 people come daily for walking, exercising, jogging, pranayam, yoga and martial arts. People ranging from 1yr to 90 yrs old come here.
There are a number of activities and clubs here. "Senior citizens club", "Ladies Yoga Class","Spiritual Discourses group" are just a few of them.
In short, this park is the lifeline of people living around here.
There is a proposal to build an underground multistoreyed car park here about which the residents have come to know only through newspaper clippings! Imagine that...its like getting to know that your daughter is married from your neighbour when she is still living in your house!

No consultations and discussions were made with the local residents about the parking lot – it
was a unilateral decision. The residents were in the dark and had no idea about this proposal.

PLEDGE your support now and raise your voice!

World Environment Day has just gone by and people the world over pledge to be saving the environment. But whenb it comes to actually coming forward and doing something, do we take the initiative? Now is the time to act!
Dont sit back lamenting the loss of your park, come forward, join hands and express yourself, for India is still a free country!

We,humans are the highest form of intelligence as individuals but when it comes to us humans as a species I think we seem to be increasingly losing it.
80 trees & we are still voting & arguing about it.Car parking & toxic fumes on one side & our & our children gasping for precious oxygen on the other side.Hey lets all wake up or there really wouldn't be much left to fight over anyways.

Well done on starting this blog! I hope it gathers support. It is always encouraging to see communities unite and stand together for common causes for common good. And I hope efforts like this push the authorities to have a clearer and more committed focus on the well beings of the citizens of this country...
Here's a link to some photographs of the peaceful protest in Shalimar Bagh, on the 8th of June... Please feel free to mail me more pictures. I would be happy to upload them...

By the way... the trees planted on the 8th have been uprooted by forces unknown...

Let this park SHIV VATIKA not fall prey to the unmindful act of the so called concerned govt authorities such as MCD, who are actually unconcerned about the horrifying lose they will cause after massacaring hundreds of trees in the name of development.
This kind of development plan should be implemented only at a site where it is actualy seriously required and NOT between residentials blocks of an already congested colony of SHALIMAR BAGH in North West Delhi.

Residents of AN, AM blocks of Shalimar Bagh are agitating against the proposed underground parking. They are holding protest march, awareness programmes about importance of Shiv Vatika and its green cover in their everyday life.
Ladies and children gathered in large numbers to protect their park . There was a drawing and painting competition held as part of their SAVE SHIV VATIKA CAMPAIGN.More than 100 children took part in this competition. They recited the slogans to save this park."Hum Manaenge diwali, jab hogi hariyali" (we will celebrate diwali, only when there will be greenary). We wish the people of Shalimar Bagh to have their green cover SAFE.

This very idea of underground parking needs reconsideration. Such deep excavations will not only deprive us of valuable green cover but also adversely affect ground water which is already depleting fast.
As for the AN-AM park it is an oasis in the midst of a concrete jungle. There is no substitue for this green patch in the localities around here.
The problem of parking in this place is non-existent. The whole problem is the illegally parked taxis out side AL market. Who will take care of this problem is the question.
